NEWS

UPDATED: 1 October 2003

Being so far from Estonia now, I'm afraid I cannot run this website effectively. If someone back in Estonia would like to take over this site, please let me know. Or else, there will be very, VERY few updates from now on...sorry.

The main news is that Kuri Proge 2004 is to happen on 31 July 2004 at the same place on Hiiumaa as in the last two years. Check the Kuri page for more info (Updated 2 July 2004).

There are some pending releases coming up including a remastered and FULL version of the material by Mess -- check out the website for Hyper Records for more as it appears.

Now the old, old news...

What a spectacular festival! For those of you who attended the fabulous Kuri Proge 2003, you know what I mean! Those of you weren't there, you missed out big-time! It was a fantastic time had by all, and the music was amazing as usual. Check out the dedicated Kuri page here.

Talking about Kuri, if you want to purchase the video from the 2002 festival (if you've forgotten about who was there, check this out), please e-mail me or the festival's chief organiser, Artur Siim. This footage includes the fabulous performance of "Supper's Ready" by Linnu Tee! Classic! Get it soon!

Here is a little note for my Estonian friends: "Head sõbrad! Suur tänu lugemise eest! Ma loodan, et see Eesti proge koduleht on huvitav Teile. Aga nüüd ma elan väljaspool Eestist...sellepärast uusi infosid ma ei saa. Mis teha? Kahjuks, ma kardan, et ainus võimalus on see: lõpetan seda kodulehte uuendama. Teistelt inimestelt revjüüsid ja materjale ma ei saa; oleks võimatu jätkada selle projektiga solo-aktina. Andeks..."

Now for the older news...

First of all, I must congratulate our own SP Gulliver, or better known as Slava Petchnikov, for the praise offered him on this month's issue of Keyboard magazine. On the June 2003 issue (which is also a prog special with keyboard whiz Jordan Rudess on the cover), the compilation CD Keyboard Corner Compilations was listed as the "unsigned artist of the month" with the track "Roboghost" by SP Gulliver and DJ Alloy (Slava's stepdaughter!) being one of the tracks singled out as a "standout" by the magazine. It was called a "detailed and hooky hip-hop flavored sound collage." Congrats, Slava!

The revival of 70s rock legends Meie continues with their appearance at Kuri Proge 2003. However, they have been making inroads since their reunion at the festival last year. Their concert, BTW, in late January was very successful and I'll try to get a review; some pictures can be seen on the band's page. They also celebrated their 30th anniversary at a concert in Tartu in May.

Also, I updated the page on Linnu Tee -- due to the major updating they have done on their own website. Do check it out! Secondly, I did some updating on the Kuri Proge page on possibilities for next year, Kuri Proge 2003.

The news about Rein Rannap that would be even more exciting to prog fans is the long-awaited release of his 4-CD boxed set. This should be a major event in recording history, which brings together a collection of work by this genius spanning three decades. The box itself will be 4 CDs, with pretty much everything he's done that's not been released. Disc 1 is a collection of his pop compositions; disc 2 includes some soundtrack music and a bit of the Ruja (pop-era) material that remains unreleased from the Ruja box; disc 3 will feature some of his most interesting rock cycles, including the historic "Ilus Maa" and others; and disc 4 will be of major interest to proggers, as it will include some of the missing early prog Ruja tracks (not in the box, including "Lumi sädeles" if you can believe it!), as well as material by the historic Noor Eesti and the legendary folk-prog project Hõim! Amazing archival material!

If you got anything to add from the fabulous Kuri Proge 2002 festival, please e-mail me! Reviews, photos, anything! We're working on 2003, so if you have ideas, also e-mail me!

Now with Wakey back in the band, Yes is on another tour. Let's home they try Estonia again -- properly! We're still basking in the joys of that show! The review is here -- with a backstage photo added, including the brilliant prog maestros of Yes and Estonia!

As usual, I am looking for reviews! If you want to help -- with additional info, pictures, etc -- please e-mail me about it! I don't want this to be a one-man project!!! Happy progging and check back often!
